Hairspray is the story of a joyous school girl named Tracy Turnblad, an aspiring performer who wants to gain a position on a local television series referred to as the Corny Collins Show. The show is in reality based on a Baltimore-based series called the Buddy Dean Show in Baltimore, Maryland.
Tracy is no one in the performing arts industry when she auditions, in spite of this she is elected for a place and against exceptionally long odds becomes a dancing star nearly overnight. Tracy is over the moon by this new recognition, & she comes to the decision to apply her fame to bring about positive developments to the television show. The essential cause behind these positive changes involves race. Tracy desires to racially combine the show, and as anybody might well imagine, Tracy is met with a serious degree of confrontation.
Hairspray went to the West End in 2007, opening for previews at the Shaftesbury Theatre on October eleventh, before being unveiled to the public at its main opening on October the thirtieth, two thousand & seven. The musical has included some famous actors — Michael Ball plays the character of Edna Turnblad, Tracy’s very own mother, delivering a compelling interpretation in this complex female character, whilst Mel Smith played joke shop owner Wilbur Turnblad, Tracy’s father. The original cast in the West End also includes newcomer to the theatre arena, Leanne Jones, in the leading character of Tracy.
Hairspray the musical play has received scores of encouraging comments from newspapers & musical theatre fans alike. Jacqueline commented: “I have been to the show four times so far and I will be without doubt going back again next week and a few more times after that as well. I love the moment & wish they could stay on longer. Ben Ellis is fantastic as link & Leanne Jones as Tracey and Michael Ball, well they are all terrific. The theatre show hairspray is for sure my favourite, merely because its optimistic and if you’re feeling a tad bit dejected then it will make you feel a great deal happier. I give it a ten out of 10 – I love it congratulations to everyone concerned.
